Sodium carbonate, also known as soda ash (Na2CO3), soda crystal and monohydrate f or m as carbonate crystal, is a sodium salt soluble in carbonic acid water. Sodium carbonate is often in the f or m of a crystalline decahydrate, which turns into a white monohydrate powder during the crystallization process. Pure sodium carbonate is a white, od or less powder that is hygroscopic (abs or bs moisture from the air). Sodium carbonate has a strong alkaline taste. Sodium carbonate is mainly known f or its wide range of use in the production of softeners.
Soda ash has various uses that are related to our daily life. Glass production is the biggest use of soda ash, which is used in the production of containers, fiberglass insulation or flat glass f or construction and automotive industries.
Soda ash is also used to clean air and sweeten water. Due to environmental concerns, soda ash is mainly used to remove sulfur dioxide and hydrochl or ic acid from the accumulated gases. Chemical manufacturers use sodium carbonate as an intermediate to produce products that sweeten carbonated beverages and improve food and cosmetics (phosphate). Household detergents and paper products are some common examples of products that use sodium carbonate.
